Emmitt Smith has thrown a penalty flag on Donald Trump.
The Hall of Fame running back and former Dancing with the Stars champion has become the latest celebrity to slam Donald Trump for his anti-immigration viewpoint.
“In light of Mr. Trump’s statements and the subsequent decisions made by NBC, I have decided not to participate as a judge in the 2015 Miss USA pageant,” Smith wrote on Facebook yesterday.
Because his wife is a former Miss Virginia who was actually runner-up at Miss USA in 1994, Smith added:
“Knowing firsthand… how much the women prepare for this event, I continue to send my support and best wishes to everyone competing this year.”
Earlier this week, Cheryl Burke resigned as host of Miss USA for similar reasons: because she is offended by Trump’s angry stance against Mexicans.
The Republican candidate for President said during a press conference late last month that the Mexicans who enter this country do “drugs” and are “rapists.”
He proceeded to double down on these comments in subsequent interviews, telling Bill O’Reilly that “the border is a disaster” and Mexicans are “taking” the money and the jobs of hard-working Americans.
In response to Trump’s vitriol, NBC has severed all ties with the mogul; it will not air Miss USA and he will never return as host of Celebrity Apprentice.
Univision has also dropped the pageant, while Trump has been fired by Macy’s.
However, as The Donald will point out every chance he gets, he’s also running second in very early polls for the Republican nomination.
